Supreme Court gives green signal to RSS march, Tamil Nadu government’s appeal rejected

The DMK government challenged the High Court order allowing the RSS to take out the march.

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court today allowed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold its rallies in Tamil Nadu, rejecting the request of the MK Stalin-led DMK government.

The DMK government had challenged an order of the Madras High Court allowing the RSS to take out the march in the state, saying it had caused panic among Hindi-speaking workers in the state.

The Supreme Court dismissed the state government’s appeal

In October, the RSS sought permission from the Tamil Nadu government to take out a march to mark the “Amrit Mahotsav of Independence” and Gandhi Jayanti.

The state government refused, and the RSS approached the High Court.

In November, a single-judge bench allowed the RSS march with conditions such as restricting the march indoors or in enclosed spaces.

In February, these restrictions were lifted by a division bench, which emphasized the importance of protest in a healthy democracy.

The state government appealed against the order of the High Court.
