Subramanian Swamy files petition against MK Stalin government’s decision

The Supreme Court on Monday sought response from the Tamil Nadu government on Dr Subramanian Swamy’s plea, which questioned government control over temples and a state law authorizing the appointment of non-Brahmins. archaso (priest).

A bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta issued the notice and tagged it with another 2012 petition.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had issued an order appointing non-Brahmins as priests in various temples. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the state had given appointment letters to 208 such priests.

Shri Swamy demanded an interim stay on the appointment order. “Please put an interim stay on the appointment” archaso by the state government, which is an atheist government,” he submitted.
