Supreme Court to hear Cyrus Mistry’s plea to drop its remarks against him

Cyrus Mistry was removed as the chairman of Tata Sons in October 2016.

new Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear Cyrus Mistry’s plea seeking to remove the remarks against him in the 2021 verdict that favored the Tata group. Mistry’s plea noted that the apex court’s remarks in the judgment raised questions on his reputation and character.

The court said that it will hear the matter in 10 days. Tata Sons has opposed the petition.

Ratan Tata, Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, had said that the 2021 order validates the values and ethics that have always guided the Tata group.

Mistry succeeded Ratan Tata as chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, but was ousted after four years.

The Shapoorji Pallonji Group had told the court that the removal of Mistry from the post of chairman of Tata Sons in the October 2016 board meeting was a “blood game” and an “ambush”, which was a complete violation of the principles of corporate governance. Widespread violation of the Articles of Association in the process.

The Tata group had strongly opposed the allegations and denied any wrongdoing, saying the board was within its power to remove Mistry as chairman.
