The announcement regarding the signing of the deal was made by Mufti Munibur Rahman during a press conference with members of the government team, including the foreign minister. Besides Mufti Muneeb, head of the Saylani Welfare Trust, Bashir Farooq Qadri, prominent businessmen Aqeel Karim Dhedi and Haji Rafiq Pardesi were reportedly named as “guarantors” in the agreement.
In a statement, PPP Senator Raza Rabbani Said that it is a matter of concern that the Government or the State requires persons to act as guarantors of such agreement.
Dawn’s report quoted Rabbani as saying, “When a person acts as a guarantor between the government and the citizens, it shows that the government has lost the moral high ground and the trust of the people.”
In a separate statement, PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar Said that the government should inform the Parliament and the country about the agreement reached in the dark of night.
