The wife of suspended BJP leader and former IAS officer Seema Patra was arrested by Ranchi Police in the early hours of Wednesday for torturing a tribal domestic help. Police sources said Seema Patra would be produced in the court later in the day and sent to jail.
Seema Patra had fled fearing police arrest, after which Argora Police in Ranchi started a search for her. Sunita, who works as a domestic maid, was allegedly asked to clean the toilet with her tongue.
There were many wounds on Sunita’s body. She has alleged that Seema Patra used to burn her with hot objects.
A case was registered against Patra, wife of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the SC-ST Act, 1989 at Argora police station in Ranchi. Ranchi Police had raided many places to arrest Seema Patra and acting on a tip-off, the police arrested her when she was trying to escape from Ranchi by road.
The National Commission for Women took cognizance of reports of Seema Patra harassing her domestic help in Jharkhand.

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a statement that the panel has written to the Jharkhand DGP to arrest the accused if the allegations are found to be true.
Rekha Sharma had said, ‘The commission has also written for a fair and time bound investigation in the matter.
