Suvendu Adhikari tries to bring development projects to Nandigram as labor exodus in TMC troubles BJP

The demand to build a bridge on the Haldia river between Haldia and Nadigram has been a long standing demand of the people of Nandigram. The construction of such a bridge in East Medinipur was mentioned in the Vote on Account budget presented by the Mamata government in February this year.

Before the elections, both BJP and TMC had talked about the construction of this bridge. New MLA Suvendu Adhikari has approached the Central Government for this bridge in East Medinipur and last week he had gone to Delhi to meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and for the early completion of the work for the bridge as well as NH-34. Raised voice too. .

This is an example of how the officials who defeated CM Mamata Banerjee in the elections here are trying to escalate things in Nandigram while the TMC is in government in the state.

Says close to him, “He is working hard to get work done by the central government and from his side he will do 100 per cent development in Nandigram.”

East Medinipur BJP vice-president Pralay Pal told News18: “After becoming MLA, he is working hard and we have already started work in Nandigram schools. Seven lakh rupees have been given for two schools in Birulia and Ahmedabad. The development work in Nandigram still remains the focus, given the big promises that were made. According to BJP sources, it cannot be said yet whether the state has stopped any work in Nandigram, but there are apprehensions.

There are apprehensions that are fueling the winds of political change in Nandigram – in fact this apprehension of the growth quotient is directly proportional to the political activity in Nandigram. The TMC claims that over 300 people are joining the TMC from the BJP every 10 days since the election results, saying it is an exodus from the BJP.

Speaking to News18, local TMC leader Gautam Kumar Pal said: “People are queuing to join TMC, applications are coming in daily. Suddenly a lot of people want to come to us and the party is electing such people. Some people are trying to show that they are more TMC than us.

In response, Pralay Pal says that some people who came to power in BJP and who thought that the state government would change, are now going back to TMC. “They (TMC) are also using money power. They are shown the benefits of the government project. Those who are going back are ‘not a proper BJP’, so we are not worried.”

The BJP also claims that it is out of fear that people are switching sides, but the TMC says that it is the development in the state that is attracting people to Nandigram. The political temperature here remains high even after months of epic political battles.
