Tulsi Tanti, founder and chairman of Suzlon Energy Limited has passed away. He died of cardiac arrest on the night of 1 October.

A visionary and world renowned expert on clean energy, Late Shri Tanti supported the cause of affordable and sustainable energy. He led the wind revolution in India with the founding of Suzlon Energy in 1995.

“With deep sorrow, we inform you about the untimely demise of Mr. Tulsi R. Tanti, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, and one of the promoters of Suzlon Energy Ltd., on 1 October 2022. Mr. Tanti suffered a cardiac arrest. And he died the same day away,” the company said in a filing with the stock exchanges.

His death comes at a time when the company, which is into manufacturing and servicing wind turbines, is in the process of raising Rs 1,200 crore through a rights issue.

Suzlon Group, which ran into financial difficulties following the 2008 global economic downturn, offers a full spectrum of green energy solutions. The group has a market capitalization of over $1.5 billion and an international presence in 18 countries across 6 continents.

Under Mr. Tanti’s leadership, the company established and surpassed benchmarks, emerging as a major player in the global renewable energy market.

He was committed to enabling energy security and affordability, so that the benefits of clean, renewable and reliable energy reach every sector.

Over a span of 22 years, Suzlon has established a global installation of over 17 GW, with over 11 GW being installed in India and over 2 GW in its second largest market, the USA.

Shri Tanti was the President of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and a member of the Board of Management of TERI University, Delhi. He was honored with several awards, and was regarded as the ‘Wind Man of India’ and was a stalwart of the Indian and global renewable energy industry.
