Swearing in rebel MLAs equals murder of democracy and constitution: Shiv Sena

A day after Maharashtra cabinet expansion, Shiv Sena claimed oath of ministers to rebel MLAs, whose disqualification petitions are pending before the Supreme Court, which is murder of democracy and the Constitution. “Ministerial oath, rebels have taken a dip in the Ganges river. But will they be able to wash away the sin of betrayal?” Asked in an editorial of Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ on Wednesday.

It said, “While administering the oath to the ministers of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, his face had expressions as if he was doing some divine work. The Marathi daily also criticized Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for bowing before Delhi seven times by visiting the national capital before the cabinet expansion. The CM had made seven visits to New Delhi in the last one month and with each visit there was talk of expansion of the ministry.

Shinde on Tuesday expanded his two-member ministry, 41 days after taking oath as the CM, adding nine ministers each from his rebel Shiv Sena group and the BJP. The editorial said that while the disqualification petition is pending in the Supreme Court, administering oath to the rebel MLAs is murder of democracy and the Constitution.

The sword of disqualification hangs over Shinde and the 39 rebels. But will the betrayer (Uddhav Thackeray) and the side-changers ever be satisfied? The Marathi publication said that the stain of betrayal will never be washed away.

It asked why the cabinet expansion, taken for such a long time, when the judgment day for the rebel MLAs was fixed on August 12, referred to petitions by the Supreme Court seeking their disqualification. Why were the rebel MLAs sworn in as ministers? Tried to find out.

This means they have no fear of the judiciary. It shows their confidence that everything will happen as per their wish. The editorial also criticized the BJP for including Sanjay Rathod as a minister. Last year, the BJP launched an aggressive campaign against Rathod, who was then a minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led state government, as his name was linked to the suicide of a woman. After this Rathore had to resign from the post of minister.
