Swiggy introduces ‘no questions asked’ 2 days holiday for female delivery partners

As part of Swiggy’s policy, female delivery partners can take two days off every month and will be provided with a guaranteed minimum earning for that period.

Food delivery app Swiggy has taken a major positive leap when the company announced monthly two-day time off policy during periods for its female delivery partners. Announcing the novel initiative, Mihir Shah, Vice President of Operations, Swiggy wrote on a blog post“Discomfort from being outside and on the road during menstruation is probably one of the least-reported reasons why many women do not consider delivery a viable gig.” Shah elaborated that in order to help the female delivery executives due to such problems related to menstruation, the company would provide ‘no-question-asked, two-day paid monthly period time-off’ for all regular female delivery partners. Policy’ will support them.

As part of the policy, women can take two days off every month and those who avail the holidays will also be provided with a guaranteed minimum earning. Swiggy’s first female delivery executive joined in 2016 and with the steps being taken by companies to transform and evolve, this initiative of the food delivery platform comes at a good time when there is increasing awareness about these factors.

Last year, Swiggy’s rival Zomato also introduced ten days of paid “period leave” per year for its female and trans employees.

Netizens reacted positively to Swiggy’s announcement and hoped that the policy would be introduced at the earliest so that employees can avail its facilities.

In the blog post, Shah also listed several other initiatives launched by the food delivery app for its employees, including measures like ‘safe zones’ and 6 pm delivery hours for female delivery partners.
