According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), an estimated 1.1 million children and adolescents (under the age of 20) are currently living with type 1 diabetes worldwide. Additionally, more than 132,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year, which is highly worrying.

Diabetes is a chronic health condition in which your pancreas either doesn’t make enough insulin or your body fails to use it efficiently, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. While blood glucose is the main source of energy and comes from the food you eat, insulin is a hormone that helps blood sugar get into your cells and convert it into energy.

So when your body doesn’t make enough insulin or doesn’t use it productively, glucose builds up in the bloodstream, raising blood sugar levels.
