An Israeli attack late on May 1 killed a soldier, injured 7 others including two civilians and put Aleppo International Airport out of service, Syrian state media reported on Tuesday, citing a military source.

Syrian state media said earlier on Monday that Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli missiles around Aleppo and shot down several of them.

The source was quoted as saying that Israel launched a missile attack at 23:35, targeting the airport and some sites around the Syrian city, southeast of Aleppo, and damaged some material.

Israel has for years carried out strikes against targets linked to Iran in Syria, where Tehran has grown in influence since it began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that began in 2011.
