Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa could have become the third bowler to take a hat-trick in the ongoing T20 World Cup, but wicketkeeper Matthew Wade denied him a chance. The incident happened during the Super 12 match between Bangladesh and Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. In the 11th over of the innings, Zampa dismissed Shamim Hossain and Mahedi Hasan in the last two balls.

On his hat-trick, which was the first ball of the 13th over, Zampa swung an edge off Taskin Ahmed’s bat, but Wade took a routine catch behind the stumps. Interestingly, there was an on-field exchange between the two players which was caught on the stump mic.

“That was my hat-trick ball,” Zampa yelled at Wade, who replied: “Yeah, I tried to catch it”.

Zampa was breathing a sigh of fire against Bangladesh as he ended the game with figures of 5/19, which is the best by any bowler in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Not only this, Zampa also recorded the best bowling figures for an Australian bowler as he outperformed James Faulkner’s 5/27 against Pakistan in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Zampa’s exploits helped Australia dismiss Bangladesh for a total of 73 in Dubai on Thursday. In reply, Australia won the game by 8 wickets as captain Aaron Finch smashed 40 off 20 balls.
