Kabul: Taliban Supreme leader haibatullah akhundzada Officials announced on Sunday he had made his first public appearance after addressing supporters in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.
Akhundzada has been the spiritual head of the Islamic movement since 2016, but remains a reclusive figure after his group seized power in Afghanistan in August.
Her low profile has fueled speculations about her role in the new Taliban government – and even rumors of his death.
According to Taliban officials, on Saturday he had gone to Darul Uloom Hakima Madrasa to “talk to his brave soldiers and disciples”.
The event was under tight security and no photos or videos surfaced, but a ten-minute audio recording was shared by the Taliban’s social media accounts.
Akhundzada – known as “Amirul Mominen” or commander of the faithful – carries a religious message.
The speech did not touch politics, but sought God’s blessings Taliban leadership.
He prays for the success of the Taliban martyrs, wounded fighters and the authorities of the Islamic Emirate in this “great test”.
Akhundzada was appointed leader of the Taliban in a rapid transition to power. 2016 US Drone Attack killed his predecessor, Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.
