Taliban’s acting foreign minister meets Ahmed Masood in Iran – Times of India

Taliban spokesman zabiullah mujahidi confirmed the meeting, which was also attended by Ismail Khan, the former governor of Herat province, in a tweet on Monday, which said: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seeks to make the situation in Afghanistan safe and friendly for all so that Let people have no opportunity to protest. In another video posted by Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Taliban’s Qatar office, Muttaki was quoted as saying: “Yes, we met Ahmed Masood, Commander Ismail Khan and other Afghans. We assured them all that they can come back and live life without any worries.”
Although the anti-Taliban National Resistance Front has yet to officially confirm the meeting, Hafiz Mansoor, a member of the coalition, said it had taken place, Tolo News reported.
Iranian media reports quoted foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzada as saying that Tehran hosted the meeting, adding that there were good discussions between the Afghan parties.
Masood reportedly fled to Tajikistan last September when the Taliban occupied the Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan’s last province, which had fallen to militants after the country’s takeover a month earlier.
Meanwhile, Khan fled to Iran after the fall of Herat in August 2021. Muttaki arrived in Tehran on Sunday for talks with Iranian officials on political, economic and transit issues, as well as with Afghan refugees in Iran.
This is the first official visit by a high-ranking Taliban delegation after taking over Afghanistan.
An Iranian delegation visited Kabul in November 2021, during which the two sides discussed bilateral issues.
Although the Iranian government has not yet recognized the Taliban government, sources told Tolo News that Abdul Qayyum Soleimani, the nephew of the former Herat governor, has been appointed as acting ambassador to Tehran by Muttaki.
