Tamil Nadu BJP functionary arrested in Coimbatore for tweeting against ‘public peace’

The Coimbatore city cybercrime police on Wednesday arrested 42-year-old S. Selvakumar was arrested for posting tweets against public tranquility between April 6 and 11.

Mr. Selvakumar was held for offenses under section 505(1)(b) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public, thereby The person may be indicted to commit an offense against the state or against the public tranquility under section 66 (offence relating to computer) of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

A senior police officer said Mr Selvakumar was arrested between April 6 and 11 this year for posting some tweets. RK Suresh Kumar, 54, a resident of Ganapatipudur in Coimbatore, lodged a complaint against Mr. Selvakumar on Tuesday. Mr Selvakumar was arrested later on Wednesday by a team led by Inspector PA Arun.

BJP state president K. Annamalai condemned the arrest. He tweeted that the ruling DMK is dreaming of suppressing freedom of expression by arresting those who point out the wrongdoings of the government.
