Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday made a surprise visit to the Block Development Office at Olakkur near Tindivanam to check the status of ongoing development works and delivery of public services. On his way to the Circuit House in Villupuram, and before presiding over a review meeting of officers and police personnel of the three districts, Mr. Stalin stopped briefly at the BDO office on GST Road.

Accompanied by Minister for Minorities Welfare and Non-Resident Tamil Welfare, Gingee KS Masthan, he went straight to the BDO’s office. The Chief Minister interacted with BDO (Block Panchayat) Murugan and BDO (Gram Panchayat) Ramdas to inquire about the ongoing development works.

Mr. Stalin inquired from the officials whether drinking water was being supplied to all gram panchayats in Olakkur block immediately and whether there was any shortage. He also inquired about the facilities from the officials and said that the government is ready to sanction the funds. [for necessities],

The Chief Minister also inquired from the officials about the works done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and whether the wages were being paid to the workers on time or not. He also inquired from the officials about the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and the list of beneficiaries selected under the scheme in the current financial year. The officials informed the Chief Minister that the selection of beneficiaries has been completed and they are awaiting administrative approval.

Mr Stalin also asked the officials about the rural roads identified for upgradation under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Sadhar Yojana.

An official said there was no advance information about the chief minister’s visit. He said that the Chief Minister inquired about the progress and implementation of various schemes and stayed for about 20 minutes.
