Ariyalur: Ariyalur Police Seven people were arrested and freed after a three-month-old baby girl was sold to a couple in Coimbatore on Wednesday. Jayakondam Police Vadavikkam’s father V Saravanan and 29-year-old mother Meena as well as the Coimbatore couple were arrested. The child was the couple’s fourth daughter.
Dalal M Muttiah, 52, of Trichy, P RajendraniC Senthilkumar, 56, and C Senthilkumar, 40, of Erode, who promoted illegal activity, were also arrested. “The Coimbatore couple were childless for seven years after their marriage. The touts misled them into being involved in the illegal sale of the child,” said police inspector Jayakundam. According to the brokers, the couple bought the child for Rs 1.8 lakh by writing the process on stamp paper. He said that the action was taken based on the complaint of the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) of Ariyalur. S Duraimurugan. The girl’s mother Meena had exposed the sale by informing the DCPO.
DCPO organized preliminary inquiry And after confirming the incident, a complaint was lodged with the Jayakondam police. Duraimurugan said Saravanan had sold the child to a couple a few days ago for Rs 1.8 lakh through three touts. “Police rescued the child from a couple in Coimbatore and brought it to Ariyalur. Further investigation is on,” he said in the evening. The DCPO said Meena is Saravanan’s second wife and the couple already has three daughters.
“As per the statement of his wife, Saravanan decided to sell the child and went ahead. It seems that poverty is not the reason to sell the child,” he said. If the parents are not willing to keep it, the custody of the child will be given to the DCPO.
