In Tamil Nadu, there was an uproar on Twitter after BJP state president K Annamalai alleged that Union Minister of State L Murugan’s vote was cast by another voter. Annamalai said Murugan had come to his polling booth only to know that his vote had already been cast.

In his tweet, Annamalai said: “Polling authorities have allowed Hon’ble Minister Shri L Murugan Awal to vote now..”

Annamalai said the mistake was made only after protests by the state BJP president and others.

However, polling officials and local police say there was no sabotage, and polling officials at a booth in Chennai’s Anna Nagar marked the union minister’s name when a man named P Murugan came to vote. .

Therefore, when the Union Minister came to vote, the officials in the register were unable to reconcile how the record showed that he had already cast his vote.

Soon a stampede broke out and the BJP workers present at the booth started creating ruckus. Election officials launched a quick investigation to find the cause and enable the minister to exercise his franchise.

At around 6:35 pm, Murugan tweeted that he had finally cast his vote.

Tamil Nadu today went to the polls to elect councillors, mayors and other local body administrators, in what voters described as a crucial test for the ruling DMK’s on-ground popularity. Polling was largely peaceful with instances of minor scuffles and EVMs being repaired.
