Tamil Nadu government to host a meeting on Saturday, January 8 to cancel the medical entrance exam National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), All political parties in Tamil Nadu, except the BJP, were present at the meeting and resolved to wage a unified legal battle to end the entry altogether. Chief Minister MK Stalin presided over the meeting.

The resolution passed by 12 political parties said, “The Center has deprived the State Government of the right to decide on the mode of admission of its students to State-run medical colleges. This is against the autonomy of the state.” The meeting was also attended by the opposition AIADMK.

BJP Mahila Morcha national president and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan demanded a white paper on the admission status and fee structure of poor students in medical colleges, saying the DMK and other parties had given a picture that the BJP had introduced NEET. did.

“It was introduced by the Congress-led UPA government of which DMK was a constituent. BJP does not agree with the NEET exemption proposal. It claimed that Tamil Nadu follows 69 per cent reservation which ensures social justice and the allegation that NEET was discriminatory is not true.

The Tamil Nadu government had earlier passed a bill to repeal NEET and had been opposing the national level entrance exam for some time now. The government had said that it deprives people from disadvantaged backgrounds and puts enormous pressure on them.

Stalin said that the government had sent the bill to be sent to the Governor for the assent of the President, however, the former had not sent the bill. “Not sending this bill to the President is considered contrary to the sovereignty of the legislature,” the resolution said.

During the recent meeting, the CM asked “How can we accept a two-hour exam called NEET after Plus Two? Isn’t this social injustice? How many people can spend huge amount for NEET coaching?”

“NEET is Tamil Nadu’s problem – our students’ problem. In a country like India where the poor live, where there is inequality in the name of caste, access to education is the biggest and most difficult thing.

Stalin said legal experts would be consulted to take necessary steps to eliminate NEET completely. During the meeting, it was resolved that all political parties will work in unison and make all necessary efforts to ensure consensus so that other states in the country realize the pitfalls of NEET, the resolution said.
