Following heavy rains, the authorities have declared a holiday on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, for schools and colleges in nearly five districts.

While a holiday was declared for schools in Thanjavur and Mayiladuthirai districts, the authorities declared a holiday for both schools and colleges in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur districts.

In Tiruvannamalai, a holiday was declared for both schools and colleges in Cheyyar, Vandavasi, Chetpet and Vembakkam taluks due to rain.

These orders have been issued by the respective collectors of the districts.

Chennai and its suburbs also received light to heavy rains since the night of October 31 and traffic jams and water-logging were reported in some parts of the city. Consequently, a holiday has been declared in schools in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts today.

Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation has launched a Helpline Number: 1913 So that the residents of the city can report for any civic problem during the rains.

In Chennai, waterlogging was observed in and around the arterial Anna Salai, congested areas of north Chennai including parts of Pulianthope, and southern parts and suburbs of the city, resulting in traffic congestion and slow vehicular movement. .

Light to moderate rain is expected to continue over the Coastal and Cauvery delta regions of the state.

No stagnation in KK Nagar due to preparation measures: Corporation

Greater Chennai Corporation officials inspected several areas and said that subways like KK Nagar-Rajamannar Salai and Ganeshpuram did not have stagnation of rain water in view of the preparedness measures and storm water drainage work.
