Coimbatore: A 16-year-old girl of class X, who was being raped repeatedly Relative, tried suicidal Cutting a vein in the left hand with a blade on Tuesday at a private school near Annoor in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district.
NS Thudiyalur The women’s police registered a case and arrested her 22-year-old relative M Saravanakumar on Tuesday night.
Police said the girl studying in a private school was living with her grandparents. Saravankumar, a labourer, the girl was in love for the past one year. He promised to marry her and raped her on January 15. After the first sexual assault, he raped her repeatedly.
The minor girl was in depression as she could not bear the mental and physical torture by Saravankumar. She went to school on Tuesday. While in the school toilet, he cut the vein of his left hand with a blade. The other girls alerted the school teachers, who took her to a private hospital, where she was treated as an outpatient.
The incident was informed to the girl’s mother. She took the girl to the Thudiyalur all-women police.
Inspector S Annam booked him under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 5(l) and 5(n) of the Indian Penal Code and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
He was sent to judicial custody.
