According to School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the Tamil Nadu government plans to organize an international book fair in Chennai in January 2023 on the lines of the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany.

He said that the book fair would be similar to the annual book fair in Chennai and would be held at the same venue. “Like the recently held Chess Olympiad, the International Book Fair will draw the attention of the world to Tamil Nadu. We will invite publishers from other states to participate in the program and the dates will be announced soon,” said Mr. Mahesh.

Elambavath, Director, Directorate of Public Libraries, Dr. Sankara Saravanan, Joint Director, Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, and two representatives from the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) visited Frankfurt, where the book fair was held . “He participated and studied the way book fairs are organized. We are going to organize a book fair which aims to exchange rights of translations from books in other languages ​​to Tamil and Tamil books to other languages,” the minister said on Thursday.

Shri Shankar Saravanan said that an international pavilion would be set up to facilitate the participation of government ministries and publishers from different countries for the purpose of the book fair. Government officials and top publishers from other countries were expected to participate in the international book fair.

“The international event will be held in just three days. The first two days will be devoted to business to business when agreements for translation are signed. The last day will be open for customers. After three days, the stalls will be managed by our volunteers and the books will go to the public libraries,” he said.

During the book fair, a country, in particular, where Tamils ​​live in large numbers, will be felicitated. Similarly, respect will also be given to a state of India. “We will invite writers and publishers to participate in the event,” said Mr. Sankara Saravanan.
