The state government today transferred the Superintendent of Police and Collector of Kallakurichi district following arson and violence in the school premises in connection with the death of a schoolgirl from Tamil Nadu.
Shravan Kumar has been made the new Collector and P Pakalawan has been made the new SP of the district.
On July 13, the girl allegedly jumped from the third floor of her hostel in the premises of a private residential school at Kallakurichi, about 260 km from Chennai. Police said a note in her room said she struggled in several subjects and was humiliated by her teachers.
The girl’s death has triggered massive protests. Protests turned violent outside the school premises on Sunday as protesters ransacked classrooms, vandalized classrooms and set school buses on fire.
The High Court has asked the police to take strict action against the rioters. About 300 suspects have been taken into custody for rioting.
Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) C Silendra Babu today announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe in depth the riots, arson and related incidents at Kaniyamoor in Kallakurichi district on July 17, news agency PTI reported. Of. ,
The SIT will investigate immediately. Salem range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Praveen Kumar Abhinapu will lead the investigation and he will be assisted by five high-ranking officers, said an order issued by the DGP’s office here.
The SIT has been tasked to unearth the entire conspiracy behind the incident, identify all the violators captured in the video, form WhatsApp groups and spread false news and take action as per law.
Youtube channels spreading false news and running parallel media trails should be blocked. Besides, the SIT should file a status report before the Madras High Court on the next date of hearing in the matter, PTI quoted the DGP as saying.

“The events of Kallakurichi have given a lot of pain. Educational institutions should think and teach students as their own children. Whatever is happening against this, I warn you will stand before the law and punish you. Taking advantage of this tragic incident, some have joined together and acted against the law. Everyone should realize that violence is against development. Only a peaceful Tamil Nadu can be an inclusive Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Stalin said. .
The girl’s family alleges that the teachers mentally tortured her. They have also alleged that there was a blood-soaked palm print on a wall near the spot where she was found dead, and claimed that it pointed to a physical struggle.
The police have arrested two teachers of the school and three senior officials-principal, secretary and correspondent.

The high court had ordered the autopsy again yesterday, but turned down the parents’ request to include a doctor of their choice in the medical panel. The court had allowed the parents and the lawyer to be present during the autopsy.
The girl’s father then approached the apex court with a plea to include a doctor of his choice in the autopsy panel. The Supreme Court will hear the matter tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem of the body is underway, while the parents of the late student have decided to boycott it.
