Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Election Result Live Updates: Counting of votes for Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies elections began at 8 am today. Single-phase elections were held on February 19 to fill 12,838 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, 490 town panchayats and 649 urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu. 74,416 candidates were in the fray, including several independents. Around 2,400 officers and 7,200 police personnel from Greater Chennai, Avadi and Tambaram Commissionerates have been deployed during the counting of votes for the urban local body elections on Tuesday. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) currently operates ahead of 17 corporations. AIADMK is currently leading in 3 municipalities and 41 nagar panchayats, while Congress is leading in three municipalities, 15 nagar panchayats.

Strong police teams headed by the respective district superintendents are in charge of all the districts. Security at each counting center is managed by a deputy superintendent-level officer, with a strong police force consisting of Tamil Nadu local police, Tamil Nadu special police and policemen drawn from police camps.

Here are the latest updates:

• In Vellore Corporation area, DMK won 14 wards, AIADMK 4 wards, PMK 4 wards, AMMK 1 ward and Independents won.

• TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK won Orthanadu Nagar Panchayat of Tanjore.

• DMK’s transwoman Ganga won from Ward No. 37 of Vellore Corporation.

• As soon as the counting of votes for a ward is over, the election results will be announced through loudspeakers.

• BJP candidate Gopinath defeated the ruling party by a margin of one vote in the old Jayankondam municipality of Karur, where BJP won by 174 votes and DMK got 173 votes.

• Elections were held on Saturday for over 12,500 wards of 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 nagar panchayats. The final turnout on Saturday was recorded at 60.7%.

• Following complaints of booth capturing and other irregularities, the State Election Commission on Monday ordered re-polling at seven polling stations in Chennai, Madurai, Ariyalur and Tiruvannamalai districts.

• The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Tuesday won the Valparai municipal elections in Coimbatore.

• As soon as the counting of votes for a ward is over, the results will be announced through loudspeakers.

• Former AIADMK minister D Jayakumar was arrested by the Chennai Police on Monday night from his residence in Washermanpet during the urban local body elections for allegedly attacking a DMK cadre on Saturday.

• The Madras High Court on Monday refused to restrain the officials concerned with the counting of votes in the February 19 elections for Coimbatore Corporation along with other urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu.
