He cited lack of vaccination of students as one of the reasons for the decision. “So far, only 46 per cent students in Tamil Nadu have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 12 per cent students have received the second dose,” he said.

The Minister also emphasized that proper COVID treatment should be followed in the campuses and even in the canteens of colleges and universities.

“Institutions should ensure that the COVID-19 behavior is followed by the students in classrooms and even in the canteens,” he said and added that there is a ban on gathering of students in cultural programs and other events. should be imposed.

“The Ministry of Higher Education has been requested to direct the colleges and district administration to implement the schemes discussed in the review meeting,” he later told reporters.

Subramaniam said that there are four lakh students studying in private engineering colleges.

He said that massive immunization programs would be organized by the Health Department in association with Greater Chennai Corporation for the students to get the vaccine.
