Tamil Nadu’s famous ‘Idli Amma’ gets a new home, Courtesy Anand Mahindra

Hunger and food insecurity are issues the world is collectively grappling with. Millions of people go hungry every day without eating a single meal. Some citizens are voluntarily giving their contribution for the needy and providing them food and water. An example of this would be Tamil Nadu’s famous M. Kamalathal aka Idli Amma – who cooks and serves idlis to migrant laborers and workers. To make food accessible and affordable to the people, the cost of idli is just Re 1. The heartwarming story of Idli Amma went viral in 2021, with many well-known personalities sharing their admiration for her selfless venture. The construction of the house with special kitchen for Idli Amma was completed on Sunday, 8th May 2022 just in time for Mother’s Day. Industrialist Anand Mahindra shared the news with his followers on Twitter. “Many thanks to our team for completing the house on time for gifting the Idli on #MothersDay Amma, she embodies the qualities of a mother: nurturing, caring and selfless. In supporting her and her good luck being able Work, Happy Mother’s Day to all of you,” he wrote in his tweet.

This tweet was originally shared by Anand Mahindra in September 2019. Describing it as a ‘humble’ and ‘impressive’ venture, he had offered to pay for the LPG stove for Idli Amma.
