Tamil star Ajith Kumar asks fans to remove Thala prefix from his name – he will reply Ajith, Ajith Kumar and AK. It is common for actors from the south to be referred to this way – with their names attached to the details of the actor’s stardom. Rajinikanth is the superstar, Chiranjeevi is the megastar, Vijay – who has an alleged rivalry with Ajith – is called Thalapathy, and Ajith is known as – or was, should we say – Thala or leader. Ajith’s character in the 2001 film Dina Thala was called dinadhyalan and the prefix stuck; Since then, fans have called him Thala Ajith and if someone refers to him as plain old Ajith, he becomes a victim of extreme annoyance.

However, plain old Ajith is what he wants you to call him from now on, please. A statement posted on behalf of the actor by his manager Suresh Chandra read: “To the respected members of the media, public and genuine fans. I want to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or just AK from now on, Not as “Thala”. Or any other prefix before my name. I sincerely wish you all good health, happiness, success, peace of mind and a beautiful life filled with contentment forever. Love, Ajit.”
