Tamilisai asks hospitals to speed up preparations

Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan has asked hospitals to keep adequate bed facilities, oxygen beds and medicines ready in view of the recent spurt in COVID-19 cases.

Addressing the review meeting of the COVID-19 Task Force, Ms Sundararajan called for a message that only people with critical conditions visit hospitals.

There should be a provision for providing tele-consultation services.

The Lieutenant Governor said that during the Pongal festival, there is a need to impose a ban instead of a complete ban on gathering in public places.

Restrictions should be implemented so that the livelihood of the people is not affected. May be allowed with restrictions for weddings, sporting events or celebrations. The Lt Governor said that the doctors and paramedics should take personal protective measures to avoid getting infected while treating the COVID-19 patients.

Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, Anand Mohan, Additional Director of Police, C. Udayakumar, Health Secretary, E. Vallavan, District Collector, G. Sriramulu, Director of Health and Saira Banu, WHO representative were among those who attended.

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated the Booster Dose Vaccination Camp for the elderly at Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Children Hospital and reiterated the importance of vaccination to protect against the worst consequences of COVID-19.

In the Union Territory, steps were taken to ensure availability of vaccines from the day the program started. As a result, so far 8.85 lakh persons had received single dose and 5.80 lakh persons had received both the doses. In addition, 26,672 adolescents aged 15-17 had also received the first dose as the roll out of vaccines for this segment began, he said.
