A tantrik was arrested from New Malakpet and remanded by the Langar House police on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in the name of treatment and later promising to marry her.
The incident took place three years back, when the complainant was a minor girl who had health issues. He had approached Ghulam Nakshaband Hafeez Pasha, a resident of Nellore, at Rahmatabad Sharif Darga to cure his ailments through prayer.
The 52-year-old ‘Baba’ “prayed” for the girl at her home. He touched her inappropriately and when she objected, the tantrik assured her that it was part of the treatment. The girl complained to her parents, but the accused hid it, saying she was doing it because of her “bad mental state”.
He is caught red-handed when the family secretly installs cameras in the room ahead of their next meeting. Police said he confessed and promised to marry her.
The tantrik was booked for cheating, sexual assault and under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.
