Tata sets five-year target to turn Air India into world-class airline – Times of India

New Delhi: Air India Under its new owner – the founder Tata Group, it aims to transform into a comfortable and punctual world class airline with a large domestic market share and a growing international footprint in the next five years.
Called “vihaan.ai” in Sanskrit for the beginning of a new era for the airline, the ambitious plan has a realistic time frame to undo, given decades of mismanagement as a state-owned entity. AI says it aims to “emerge as a world-class global airline with an Indian heart by 2027 – the absolute best in class in customer service, technology, products, reliability and hospitality.”

Over the next 5 years, Air India will strive to increase its market share in the domestic market to at least 30%, while significantly increasing the international routes from the current market share. The scheme aims to put Air India on a path of sustained growth, profitability and market leadership, AI said in a statement.

The transformation plan has been developed after extensive feedback from AI employees. It is focused on five key pillars – exceptional customer experience, strong operations, industry best talent, industry leadership and commercial efficiency and profitability. While the immediate focus of AI remains on setting the basics and preparing itself for growth (“taxi phase”), a more medium to long-term focus will be on building excellence and setting the scale to become a global industry leader (“Tech off and ascent phases”).
The plan has been unveiled a month before the 90th anniversary of AI founder JRD Tata piloting the first flight of an airline that has become AI. “Since then, Air India and its employees have faced many challenges before returning home to the Tata Group. Vihaan.AI is the roadmap to put Air India on the global map, making it a world class, digital, Indian airline,” the statement added.
