With the increase in traffic, the number of fatal accidents has increased manifold. The Tata Steel Administration, which looks after civic amenities in the company-administered area, including roads, undertakes road widening and construction of new roads to address the impasse.
The Kadma-Sonari link road has been widened by about two feet on both the lanes, creating separate tracks for cyclists.
It was formally inaugurated by the President Tata Sons Natarajan Chandrasekaran on Wednesday. State Health and Disaster Management Minister along with senior officials of Tata Steel were present at the function.
Chanakya, Vice President of Tata Steel: ChieftainSaid said, the plan is being made so that heavy vehicles do not enter the city roads for work as this will help in reducing the accidents. For this Tata Steel alone cannot complete the project and needs the help of the district administration.
He elaborated that the roads in the Tata Steel administered area could be laid by the company, but it should be connected to the National Highway, which is the entry point for heavy trucks carrying goods from various companies located in this industrial city.
Without adequate support from the local authorities, such projects cannot be fully implemented.
Choudhary said that places are being sought where heavy trucks can wait before entering the companies so that they do not ply on the roads. Heavy trucks are found parked at Bhuiyadih crematorium and surrounding areas due to paucity of parking space.
