Tata Tiago EV long range bookings higher in rural areas

An aggressive pricing strategy has seen a rise in the customer base of the Tata Tiago EV, with over 20,000 bookings so far.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passengers Electric Mobility, said, “The pattern we are seeing with the Tiago EV is different from other EVs. We are seeing growth in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. There were no early adopter regions like Maharashtra and Delhi which announced EV policies.

In states that are the latest to adopt EV policies, demand for the long-range Tiago (24kWh battery) is high, while the more affordable mid-range variant (19.2kWh battery) appears to be in demand in states that have adopted EV policies Right from the beginning.

Chandra says: “The better-developed charging infrastructure allows customers to opt for the mid-range variant”. Tata Motors also states that more than 50% of its customers were below the age of 40 and 25% were first-time buyers. Chandra believes this is good because “an electric car is increasingly being considered as a primary vehicle”.
