Tata Tiago EV unveiled on September 28: Top things to know – Times of India

Tata Motors recently announced that the company will expand its EV lineup with the most anticipated full electric variant tago Compact hatchback. Bye Tiago EV It is all set to make its official launch on 28th September.
The Tiago EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and was expected to hit the Indian roads by 2020. However, the manufacturer did not launch it.
Ahead of its unveiling here are the top 5 things you should know about India’s cheapest all-electric car.
1. Design
Talking about the design of the Tiago EV, the car is expected to look similar to its ICE counterpart with a redesigned front grille and front and back bumpers. The car will also get blue accents on the grille, alloys and interior.
Tata Tiago EV It is expected to come with an electric-themed styling trope to differentiate it from the standard Tiago. It could be a tri-arrow design with an electric-specific teal blue shade and a ‘humanity’ line grille similar to the Tigor EV.
2. Electric Motor
The Tata Tiago is currently available with petrol and CNG options, and will now get an electric powertrain soon.
At present, the company has not given any information about the car. Mechanically, the Tiago EV is expected to be powered by the same powertrain as the Tigor EV.
The electric car is expected to come with an electric motor that churns out 74 bhp power and 170 Nm of torque.
3. Battery and Range
The upcoming Tiago EV is expected to come with the same 26 kWh battery as the Tigor EV.
The 26 kWh battery is expected to cover a range of around 300 kms on a full charge, which is an ideal scenario which should be over 225 kms. The Tiago EV is expected to support DC fast charging which can boost the battery from 0 to 80 percent in about 60 minutes. However, a traditional 15 amp AC charger takes 8.5 hours to do so.
Tata Motors can offer a battery and motor warranty of 8 years and 160,000 kms.
4. Interior and Features
The Tiago EV will retain the look of its petrol variant. It is expected to get dark-toned interior with EV-themed color detailing and electric blue accents around the instrument panel, on-the-seat fabric with AC vents and stitching and tri-arrow pattern.
The Tata Tiago EV is expected to get a 7-inch touch screen boosted by Harman-Kardon stereo, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, 30+ connected features and a suite of connectivity packages that can be seen on the Tigor EV.
The Tiago EV will also feature a fully digital driver display.
5. Expected Value
When launched, the Tiago hatchback will be the most affordable electric hatchback in India and is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh. With the Mahindra e-Verito no longer available, the Tigor EV is currently the most affordable four-wheeler EV in India, priced from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata recently launched the new Nexon EV Max in the Indian market for Rs 17.74 lakh for the XZ+ variant and goes up to Rs 19.24 lakh for the top-spec Nexon EV Max XZ+ Lux. The Nexon EV Max offers an ARAI-certified range of 437km, thanks to its massive 40.5kWh battery pack.
