Tata will revamp Vande Bharat, plans flight-like features and reciprocating seats

Tata plans to spend conglomerate of salt from steel 3,000 crore on Research and Development to make ‘First in India’ seating system for Vande Bharat. The company is also aiming to be among the top 5 technology firms in the global steel industry by 2030.

Tata SteelAfter working in this direction the Composites Division started working 145 crore bulk order for seating arrangement Vande Bharat Express which includes supply of complete seating arrangement for 22 train sets with 16 coaches in each train set.

Debasish Bhattacharjee, Vice President, Technology and New Materials Business, Tata Steel told PTI, “These are specially designed seats, which can rotate 180 degrees and have aircraft-style passenger amenities. It is ‘first in India’. ‘ is a one-of-a-kind supply, which will be executed over 12 months starting September 2022.”

Bhattacharjee, speaking about Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP), the material used in the seats, said, “The overall industry in India is dominated by institutional businesses and is largely dependent on the infrastructure, industrial and railway sectors. One of the key initiatives is. The composites business was aimed at transitioning to Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) applications where steel is currently being used. Railways has been a promising customer for Tata Steel’s FRP composites business.”

The FRP used in the seats will have high corrosion resistance and low maintenance cost. In addition, it will conform to the European standard of fire retardant property and provide superior safety and comfort to the passengers.

Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is the second fastest train in India, running at a speed of 130 km/h.

Bhattacharjee said Tata Steel is setting up a greenfield facility in Khopoli. MaharashtraIn collaboration with a technology partner from the Netherlands.

“The facility will manufacture aluminum honeycomb cored sandwich panels, which will be primarily used for interiors of rail and metro coaches. Major customers of the unit will be global metro and rail coach OEMs and Indian Railways as well,” he added.

Tata’s new content business

For Railways, NMB’s composites business is leveraging Tata Group’s synergies by jointly offering integrated solutions with TM Automotive Seating Systems and Tata Autocomp Systems.
