Tata’s electric spin-off: Tigor EV or Nexon EV, which one to choose – Times of India

New Delhi: To know Tigor EV And the Nexon EV is based on two different body types, don’t write a headline right now. These two products from Tata are working in the ‘affordable’ segment of the electric domain and will lead the way in promoting electrification in the mass market.
Following the same product line strategy as the Nexon EV, the Tigor EV was launched on Tuesday in three trims – XE, XM and XZ+ priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Nexon EV, on the other hand, will set you back anywhere between Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.65 lakh (ex-showroom). There is no dark edition available in the Tigor EV at the time of launch.

Various states offer significant subsidies and tax benefits to promote electric vehicles, thereby reducing the effective on-road price. The company has also been able to achieve the same claimed range in both the cars.
Tata Motors has used its versatile and scalable Ziptron electric module under both the cars. The IP67-rated 26 kWh battery size in the Tigor EV is smaller than the Nexon EV’s 30.2 kWh, but delivers a comparable range of 306 km/single change against the SUV’s 312 km/charge. In real-life situations, according to customers, the Nexon EV delivers between 225-260 km/single.

Both cars took the same amount of time to charge from 0-80% using a CCS 2 fast-charger or 15-amp plug. The 0-80% quick top-up on Nexon EV and Tigor EV takes 60 minutes and 65 minutes respectively, while the company claims 8.5 hours via AC callbox charger. Tata Motors is offering 8 years and 160,000 km on the battery and motor warranties of both the Nexon EV and Tigor EV.
The Tigor EV delivers 74 PS of peak power output and 170 Nm of peak torque while the Nexon EV belts out 129 PS and 245 Nm. Automatic transmission is available in both the cars. The Tigor EV has a claimed top speed of 5.7 seconds from 0-60 kmph, while the Nexon EV is faster than a second to clock it.
The Connected Suite unlocks a similar set of features powered by Tata’s IRA. Tata claims 35 connected car features in the Nexon EV through the ZConnect app while the Tigor EV gets 30+. Connected car features include remote command and diagnostics, remote command, vehicle health monitoring, safety and security, driving and trip analytics, and location-based services.
Tata Nexon EV Available under the subscription module in select cities, starting at Rs 29,999 per month. This can also be extended to the Tigor EV in the future. The Nexon EV has passed the crash test safety with 5-stars while the Tigor EV has passed the crash test safety with 4-stars.

Both the offerings pamper the customers with 7-inch display (different layouts), Harman stereo system, LED lights, rear parking camera with auto-foldable ORVMs. Thanks to the optional sunroof, alloy wheels and leatherette interiors, the Nexon EV is more premium.

Tata Motors is bringing the Tigor EV at a time when the Nexon EV is registering the highest ever sales since its launch. While both the products aim to further the electrification journey for the carmaker, the low price tag of the Tigor EV could prove to be a boon.
