Tax officials on actor Sonu Sood’s Mumbai home day after offices raid

Sonu Sood won wide acclaim for his charity work during the pandemic.

Income Tax officials reached actor Sonu Sood’s house in Mumbai this morning after raids at his offices that ended late last night. Taxmen are probing Sonu Sood’s property deal with a Lucknow-based real estate company.

the officers searched Six places associated with the actor yesterday, Including the office of his charity located at his home in Juhu.

Describing the operation as a “survey”, the sources claimed, “A recent deal between Sonu Sood’s company and a Lucknow-based real estate firm is under investigation. Survey launched on allegations of tax evasion on the deal Is.”

Opposition politicians have leveled witch-hunt charges against the 48-year-old actor, whose philanthropy has earned him the tag of “messiah of migrants” during the Covid crisis.

Sonu Sood Arranged buses, trains and even flights to transport hundreds of migrants stranded and helpless in the lockdown to their home states. During the second wave earlier this year, he arranged oxygen for Covid patients.

The raids are being conducted a few days after the actor was raided Special meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who announced him as the brand ambassador for the “Desh Ka Mentors” program for school students.

Though he has been brought up by politicians and parties, Sonu Sood has always maintained that his donation has nothing to do with politics.

The meeting with Mr Kejriwal fueled rumors of a political debut, perhaps as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate in next year’s Punjab elections.

“No politics was discussed. Till now we have not discussed anything political,” Sonu Sood told reporters while addressing a press conference with Kejriwal.

The BJP has denied that the raids were politically motivated.
