Ranchi: About half a dozen criminals beat up an assistant professor of zoology named Maturi. Rahman (40) on Doranda College On Thursday morning when he tried to stop them from misbehaving with the girls. One person has been arrested in this connection.
The incident was opposed by the college teachers, who gheraoed the local police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and adequate security measures in the college premises. College Principal BP Verma also visited the police station.
Rahman, who is also in-charge of the intermediate section of the college, said, “When I was supervising the intermediate classes in the morning, I saw some outsiders staring at the girl students and making lewd gestures. When I politely asked them to leave the campus, one of them abused me and the other started punching me.
Following this, other college teachers and staff intervened to save Rahman from the attackers. The victim, who complained of injuries to her head, face and chest, was sent to the local hospital for medical examination by the police.
Ranchi SSP Kishor Kaushal said that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and one accused has been named. Taslim has been arrested. He said that raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused. A complaint has been registered against Danish alias Mantu, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Hussain, Mohammad Shahid, Zia Ul and others.
College teachers said that closed circuit television camera footage related to the incident has gone missing from the college premises. It is not yet known whether the footage is not available for some technical reason or it has been removed.
While the process of filing a complaint was underway, a group of girls also came to the police station and claimed that some of the accused had misbehaved with them as well. Officer-in-charge, Ramesh Kumar Singhasked them to submit their applications.
