Team Thackeray’s new Supreme Court challenge to the Eknath Shinde government

The Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray has approached the Supreme Court against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s decision to invite Eknath Shinde to form the government in the state.

It has also challenged Monday’s assembly proceedings, which saw the new Maharashtra chief minister wind up going through a floor test. The Thackeray camp argued that the floor test was illegal as it involved 16 MLAs facing disqualification.

The governor’s order came on June 28 when BJP leaders, including former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, met him and urged the Thackeray-led government to prove its majority in the assembly, which claimed that the Shiv Sena-NCP -Congress coalition government was in place. to be in the minority

The governor “acted at a faster pace than Rafale” after BJP leaders met him, Uddhav Thackeray loyalist Sanjay Raut slammed him.

Eknath Shinde was sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister and Devendra Fadnavis’s deputy on June 30, as the BJP stalled a coup that ousted Uddhav Thackeray. Four days later, his camp got 164 votes in the 288-member assembly, well above the simple majority mark of 144. Only 99 MLAs voted against it.
