Tech Mahindra firm to hire 600 engineers by July 2022; Eyes increase 10-12%

Tech Mahindra Group firm Comviva plans to hire around 600 engineers by July 2022 to meet the development requirements, a top company official said.

The company is now focusing on Tier 2 cities and is now expanding its Bhubaneswar centre, which was opened 3 years back as part of its new strategy, said Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO, Comviva PTI in an interview.

“We are a team of around 2,000 members. We are looking to add 600 people on an annual basis. Around 300 will be campus freshers and another 200-300 will be market hires,” he said.

The company has seen the job loss rate increase to around 20-23 per cent in the last few quarters from 15-16 per cent in the past.

Mohapatra said the company plans to hire around 600 people by July 2022, and continues to work further to grow the team in Bhubaneswar.

“We are less than 20 people in Bhubaneswar right now, but plans are being finalized this year. We have started the recruitment and hope to complete it by March 31, 2022.

“In the current financial year, there will be around 60-70 people, but in about two years there will be 200-300 people at the centre. It will depend on how easy it is to acquire talent.

Talking about revenue growth, he said the company expects a growth of 10-12 per cent in the current financial year. Comviva had recorded a revenue of 845.1 crore in the financial year 2021.

Comviva’s main focus is on providing IT solutions for applications and technologies based on mobile devices.

The company is planning to set up a center of excellence for mobile devices in Bhubaneswar.

“We will do whatever we do with respect to all our mobile payments, super apps, merchant apps, consumer apps, self-care apps, apps in the next 18-24 months. Bhubaneswar will be known as a center of excellence. mobile application,” said Mohapatra.

He added that the company’s next generation of activity will be around mobile devices, including writing software for wearables that will enable payment transactions from smartwatches.

“You can make a merchant payment or transfer money to your family right from your watch. You don’t need to go to your laptop or phone. This is one area we have chosen for Bhubaneswar and another area – Mobile money, digital banking – growth expected to be large.

“We have decided to make this also the second field of merit in Bhubaneswar,” Mohapatra said.
