New Delhi: A new legal framework will begin to take shape in the country around technology and the Internet, and data protection bill This is the first step in this direction, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajiv Chandrasekhar said on Thursday.
Chandrashekhar further said that digitization of government and public services is going to happen “rapidly” and the soon-to-be unveiled Digital India 2.0 will seek to accelerate the gains made in the past few years.
The minister said the government is committed to ensuring that the internet and technology remain open, safe, secure and accountable, as 1.2 billion Indians will come online in the next few years.
“A new modern legal framework around technology and the Internet will begin to take shape in the country, its first step data security Bill that you will see soon in the next few months. Addressing the concluding session of the Aadhaar 2.0 workshop, Chandrashekhar said, “This again brings about interesting changes in the overall operating environment.
He also supported the need to create a “Trusted Common Digital ID” for every citizen of India.
The minister said issues of national security are “real issues” and therefore there will be a growing demand and need for reliable IDs and the ability to validate citizenship, he said.
