Teen arrested for trying to kill US President in truck crash

A man who rammed a Nazi-flagged U-Haul truck near the White House has been arrested and charged with attempting to kill or harm the president, police said Tuesday.

No one was injured after a driver apparently intentionally drove into a bollard outside Lafayette Park shortly before 10:00 pm (0200 GMT) on Monday, US park police said.

TV images showed a red and black swastika banner found during a police search of the truck.

Park police said in a statement Tuesday that the driver of the vehicle was identified as Sai Varshit Kandula, 19, of Chesterfield, Missouri.

It said he was charged with “assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, killing/kidnapping/injuring the President, Vice President, or family member, destroying federal property, and trespassing.” Was.”

A local Fox affiliate reported that some guests at a nearby hotel said they were told to evacuate after the crash.
