Telangana man hospitalized with symptoms of monkeypox, tests negative

Hyderabad:

A senior doctor at a government hospital in Hyderabad said on Tuesday that samples of a 35-year-old man who had come to Telangana from abroad were negative for monkeypox.

Dr K Shankar, superintendent of Government Fever Hospital, which is the nodal hospital for treating patients with the emerging virus, told PTI that the samples sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune have come back negative.

Dr. Shankar said, “There is nothing to panic. The samples came out negative for monkeypox.”

Symptoms of monkeypox were seen in a person who returned from abroad to Kamareddy district of Telangana.

He had come from Kuwait on 6 July and developed fever on 20 July.
