A day after Tesla chief Elon Musk tweeted that the electric car major is facing several challenges with the Union government mulling to launch its products in India, Telangana’s Industries Minister KT Rama Rao took a swipe at US-based automakers. Last year, Tesla had sought a reduction in import duty on electric vehicles (EVs) in India.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries had asked the electric car company to start manufacturing its iconic electric vehicles in India before considering any tax concessions.

Central government sources had noted that they were not offering such concessions to any auto firm, and that giving duty benefits to Tesla would not bode well for other companies that have invested billions of dollars in India.
