Telangana rain: IMD issued red alert for 8 districts, see for more details

Amid incessant rains and waterlogging and flood-like situation in Telangana for the past few days, the India Meteorological Department on July 9 issued a red alert for 8 districts of the state.

The districts where the IMD has issued a red alert include Jaishankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mancherial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad and adjoining districts.

Hyderabad Meteorological Center head Dr K Nagarathna said, “Eight districts – Jaishankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mancherial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad and adjoining districts are likely to be affected by very heavy to very heavy rains.”

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in the state from July 9-13. The Meteorological Department cited the ongoing monsoon season and a cyclonic circulation over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal for incessant rains in the state.

Earlier in the day, Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao requested people not to step out of their homes unless necessary.

KCR also directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to alert all concerned departments and take prompt security measures in view of incessant rains in the state.

With the IMD issuing a red alert, KCR asked the chief secretary to hold a video conference with district collectors and alert the NDRF and rescue teams in the flood-affected areas.

Between June 1 and July 8, the state received excess rainfall, recording 260.6 mm of rainfall – 46 per cent more than the normal (178.9) for the period.
