Hyderabad:

Telangana Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, five days after he attended his granddaughter’s wedding. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy were guests at the wedding and were seen sitting next to the Speaker during the ceremony. None of them were wearing masks.

In the visuals, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is seen sitting in the middle of a sofa by K Chandrasekhar Rao and the Speaker of the Assembly.

Many VIPs and politicians who attended the wedding and met the host have gone for the COVID-19 test.

The presence of the two chief ministers as guests at the wedding also marked the first face-to-face meeting between them, which was apparently followed by a fall and acrimonious exchanges, which indicated a sour in relations.

There was a dispute between the two over the sharing of river water. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s sister has also started a political party in Telangana and criticized KCR. Jagan Mohan Reddy, however, distanced himself from his sister’s political journey.

The COVID-19 safety rules still recommend wearing masks, although the lockdown and other strict measures have been relaxed in all states depending on the region-specific severity of the COVID-19 situation. The Center has from time to time reminded people – even if double immunization – against lowering their guard because the pandemic is still very much around.

At the peak of the pandemic, the number of wedding guests was limited to a few family members.
