Telangana to pay for education of medical students returned from Ukraine

After medical students returned from Ukraine were unable to return to their colleges, the Telangana government has offered to bear the cost of their education in India. Students who have been rescued from war-torn Ukraine cannot return to the country to pursue MBBS degrees offline and online education in the medical stream is not acceptable in India. This has left about 10,000 students hanging in the balance.

Keeping in view the plight of the students, the Telangana government has decided to bear the education expenses of the students who have returned from Ukraine. “We will write to the Center regarding this issue and help these students. These children can neither go back to Ukraine nor can we stop their education. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said, “We will help him complete his education here.”

The Telangana government will pay the educational expenses of 740 students who returned from Ukraine to complete their medical education in India. He announced this during the assembly meeting. He said he would write to the Center to allow the students to complete their medical courses in India. His announcement came when he was replying to the Appropriation Bill.

KCR further said that for pursuing medical studies in India, students had to pay more than Rs 1 crore, which they were unable to afford. So, he went to Ukraine where he had to pay Rs 20-25 lakh, he told a leading news daily.

The petitioners have stated that they will not be able to go to Ukraine to complete their education in the near future. That’s why we have sought help from the government.
