Tennis-Tsonga return with victory in Montpellier

Former world number five Joe-Wilfried Tsonga claimed his first ATP Tour win in nearly a year on Tuesday as he defeated Poland’s qualifier Kaper Zuk 6-4, 6-4 in Montpellier.

The 36-year-old claimed only his second win since 2019, after missing almost the entire 2020 season with a back injury and posting a 1-8 record in 2021.

Tsonga said after his win, “It’s amazing for me to play here on the court. I’ve had some tough months and to win one of my first matches of the year like this, it’s great for me.”

“You can’t do it without people around you. I have a chance to have great people around me, and it gave me a chance to live some moments like that.”

Tsonga will face Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic on Wednesday.
