Tesla China Gigafactory remains closed due to COVID-19 restrictions

COVID restrictions in Shanghai mean carmaker facilities in China have to remain closed

Tesla on Sunday reportedly told its employees in China to stay home as it was suspending operations at its China factory. Tesla’s factory in eastern Shanghai is facing COVID-related restrictions, according to reports, forcing the carmaker to ask its employees to stay at home. Chinese authorities recently imposed restrictions on movement in Shanghai due to a spurt in COVID cases.

The carmaker had earlier shut down operations at its Shanghai factory on March 28 with plans to resume operations in four days.

Tesla’s China factory is said to produce around 6,000 Model 3 sedans and 10,000 Model Y SUVs every week.
