Now games are going to be disabled after software update

Tesla has removed games from its cars after an investigation by the US NHTSA, which opened a safety check on 580,000 vehicles it has sold since 2017. The main issue here is that Tesla has added games to the main infotainment screen. Next to the driver is the security. The feature called “Passenger Play” is known to be something that could be distracting to drivers and is now being disabled via a software update.

“NHTSA continually assesses how manufacturers identify and protect distraction hazards arising from defects, misuse or intended use of facility technologies, including infotainment screens,” the agency said.

New Tesla Cars Could Play the Triple-A Game Like the Witcher

Tesla has already been under the pump for its implementation of Autopilot which is technically an ADAS system but promoted like a self-driving autonomous system by Tesla founder Elon Musk. Recently, Tesla has also added an AMD RDNA 2 GPU to the latest version of the Model S which will enable the infotainment screen to play games that would normally be played on video game consoles such as the PS5.

It has been said that the feature can be dangerous if the driver’s attention is distracted and that’s why Tesla is pushing for a software update. That being said, Tesla now has dedicated engineering teams developing games and a video game platform for its cars, so it’s likely the world’s most valuable automaker will lobby against NHTSA.
