Cybertruck has a quirky design and incredible range

Tesla has removed all references to Cybertruck on its website including specs and prices. While there is a dedicated page for Cybertruck, Tesla has removed the specs and configuration options for the electric pickup truck, which it says has been delayed to 2022. Earlier, the car was to be launched in 2021 but due to the double whammy pandemic and global semiconductor shortage, this car has been delayed along with the Roadster and Semi Truck.

Back in 2019 when Tesla first unveiled the car before the pandemic, it was offered in three options. The base model single motor RWD model covered around 402 kmph with 0-100 kmph of 6.5 seconds and 177 kmph as top speed starting at $39,900. The dual-motor AWD variant has a range of 482.8 km and is slightly faster from 0-100 kmph with a top speed of 193 kmph. Its high cost was $49,900. The top of the line model of Cybertruck promises a range of over 800 km which is quite fast with a top speed of 209 kmph from 0-100 kmph with a time of 2.9 seconds. This model was priced at $69,900.

It means a few things; Firstly the pricing is likely to change in light of the semiconductor shortage, which is also seen on other Tesla models that have become progressively more expensive. The second issue could be that the configurations have changed as well. In the case of the new Tesla Model S Plaid range, Elon Musk decided to nix the model because he felt it was overkill. Tesla also doesn’t include the $10,000 full self-driving package price tag, probably because it plans to upgrade the stack with new cameras and a new full self-driving chip.

Considering the base model’s $42,000 price tag of the Model 3, these older prices and configurations are probably out of trend and have therefore been dropped. Another factor may be more delays in the delivery of the car. Tesla probably won’t even release a base level model of the car until 2023 or 2024, so it’s definitely some time away.

Tesla has currently not even started deliveries of the new Model X which is based on the new Model S, so the focus is on mass-market vehicles like the Model 3 and Model Y which are now also being produced in Berlin. Gigafactory.
